Propaganda Wars
A while ago, I posted about Bush's power grab. Well, it's getting worse and we need to stop it. There is no way to completely eradicate terrorism. If we cave in and think that by giving away all of our civil liberties in order to feel safer we're just being lazy. Any politician, lawyer, social scientist, teacher, and citizen worth their salt needs to stand up and be heard. Daschle is at least. And now Al Gore. Thank God for Al Gore and his crazy censoring pre-cursor to the GOP Christian Right Conservative cultural movement wife, Tipper. The day that he sounds like a screaming liberal is a sad day for American politics indeed. I remember when he first came on the national stage and his wife wanted to kill hip hop. All my friends thought the two of them were fascists. Now they may just be the last sane voice in religious American politics. He's changed, (or I have, can't tell anymore). He's got his new TV station, he's poking hard pokes at the Republicans, he's not afraid to say pig shit stinks. The real question is -- will it do any good?
I'm all for a progressive independent voice standing up and calling folks out. Corruption in Washington, limiting campaign contributions, regulating cable and broadcast television to insure equal access for all candidates, outlawing lobbying and advertising in politics. Heck, if you can't raise the level of American's understanding of the issues and create a forum for substantive argument than you are part of the problem. I watch movies for entertainment, I watch and read the news for information. Partisanship in the US is killing democracy. It's become demogogeury and that's very very bad.
